We always came home with a tick or two. The biggest thing that ever happened was an earth tremor. We were standing around in a circle saying a prayer when the earth moved under our feet. Wow! It felt like God was answering us.

I WANT MY OUTS TO COUNT BY STEPHANIE
I think this was at a Campbell County reunion or a few that we had a Shilito Park, but I must have been about 7 or 8 and was playing in the family game of softball. I was up to bat and made an out and one of the older boy cousins said, “It’s OK, her outs don’t count anyway”. Well, that really upset me and I had to have a big talk with my dad and I asked him why I was even playing if my outs weren’t going to count? We rejoined the game and dad let everyone know (in his Ken Creighton voice), “Her outs are going to count!”. The next inning I was in the outfield and a fly ball was headed my way. I knew after the big scene about the outs that the pressure was on. I had to catch this ball and prove myself. Well, I did catch the ball, and bloodied my nose in the process.
Still to this day when I want to do something on my own I say, “I want my outs to count!” and everyone in my family knows what I mean.
